Dharma Jazz Festival

ダルマフェス

Myozenji, Roppongi/Nishi-Azabu

Charges 1 day 2,500 yen, 2 days 4,000 yen

February 10 (Saturday) and February 11 (Sunday)

Jazz and Buddhism are much closer in worldview than most people might imagine. The upcoming Dharma Jazz Festival will be a great chance to meditate on those connections. But don’t worry, you won’t need to get up early in the morning and sit cross-legged in the cold. Instead, you’ll be able to enjoy your meditations together with excellent food and music and drinks.

The environs of the temple grounds are their own pleasure, but with music resonating through the halls and open space, these two afternoon/evening shows will be a genuine treat. The music will feature the Norwegian pianist Kjetil Jerve as well as Tokyo-based jazz musicians like Hiroshi Minami and Akira Sakata. DJ-ing will round out the sonic sphere and food and drinks will be available. Myozenji Temple was built in 1627 and now rests in the shadow of Roppongi Hills. Seems just the right place for a jazz event!
